Sustainability in Action

Our sustainability efforts go beyond words — we’ve put real, measurable initiatives in place to reduce waste, support our community, and make the Emera Blue Nose Marathon a leader in responsible sport.

Reducing Waste & Reuse

Bottle-Free Since 2017 — Thanks to Halifax Water, we use city hydrants instead of single-use water bottles at hydration stations.

Reusable Signage — Event signage is reused annually, and old signs are repurposed as stacking boards at water stations.

Simons Green Bib Option — Participants can opt out of receiving a race shirt and medal, with a portion of their registration fee donated to Coastal Action for environmental protection efforts.

Giving Back to the Community

Leftover Nutrition Donations — Unused food and beverages are donated to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission to support those in need.

Upcycled Participant Shirts — Leftover race shirts are transformed into reusable bags by Prescott Group, keeping them out of landfills.

Shoe Mountain — Participants donate gently used running shoes at Kit Pick-Up, which are then distributed to those in need through Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.

By continuing to innovate and build on these efforts, we’re striving to make the Emera Blue Nose Marathon one of the most sustainable sporting events in Canada.
