Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon will be postponed to the fall of 2020.

Your safety and well-being has always been and will continue to be our top priority. We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and given the recent advice of the Premier and health authorities and the continuing evolution of this pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon until the fall. We know everyone will be disappointed by this news, however we must do our part in protecting the safety and well-being of our community and flattening the curve.

A week ago, we believed the Blue Nose Marathon would be able to occur on Victoria weekend and we communicated that message.  On Friday, things began to change as the Premier, along with Dr. Strang, Nova Scotia’s Chief Medical Officer, indicated there are to be no mass gatherings of more than 150; (as of yesterday, that threshold was further dropped to 50 people.) Then over the weekend, we learned of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our community.  We wish those individuals a healthy speedy recovery. 

We are presently working with the City to finalize a new date for the fall of 2020 and plan to confirm the timing with you very soon. In the meantime, we have paused our registration as of 1PM today.  Registration will reopen as soon as we have confirmed the new date. We ask for your patience as we work through this process. We expect to share more details with you early next week.

Below are recommended habits on how to prevent the spread of infectious illnesses and proper etiquette to consider while running:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Clear your nose away from fellow runners.
  • It is still recommended to get your flu shot if you haven’t already as the flu virus is still circulating in the community.
