Adsum Association for Women & Children

Adsum offers a range of services and support to women, families, youth and trans* persons during periods of homelessness. Adsum operates four Halifax locations: an emergency shelter, second-stage housing and two affordable, supportive housing apartment complexes. Adsum also has three condos that are rented, as permanent supported housing, to women-led families. We shelter or house up to 80 people each day and we provide services and support to more than 1,000 people each year.

Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia

The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia’s mission is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in addition to promoting the search for the causes, treatments and cures. They invest in outstanding Alzheimer research and provide valuable programs and services to the thousands of Nova Scotians in need. The Society relies on the generosity of donors, corporate supporters and volunteers to achieve its Mission.

Aninga Project

The Aninga Project is a non-profit educational initiative that supports and encourages the education of girls in Africa by paying for school fees and other related expenses. It is a person-to-person based project that is currently focused on sending girls to school in Uganda.

UNDERSTANDING – ACCEPTANCE – INCLUSION Autism Nova Scotia strives to build community capacity to enhance understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of families and individuals living with ASD across the province.

Bide Awhile

Bide Awhile Animal Shelter is a not-for-profit, no-kill shelter that has served HRM continuously since 1969. At any given time, they have 100 cats and six dogs at their shelter; everyone who comes through the shelter is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, tested for feline leukemia, socialized and much more – all without government funding. That’s why fundraisers are key to their success and longevity.

Brigadoon Village passionately transforms the lives of Atlantic Canadian children and youth living with health conditions and other life challenges to help them reach their full potential through experiential learning, meaningful connections, and exceptional fun.

Dartmouth Family Centre

The Dartmouth Family Centre has operated in the heart of Dartmouth North for more than 20 years, providing a space for new moms and families to support one another, access services and resources, and build a network of relationships. Two years ago we opened the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre in response to food insecurity. We offer a welcoming space where people come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food.

Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation

The Foundation raises funds from the community to support the needs of the Dartmouth General Hospital. These funds support capital construction, priority medical equipment, professional development opportunities and new technology for DGH.

Dress for Success Halifax promotes economic independence of women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools necessary to help women thrive in work and in life. Their clients receive much more than a suit. They receive confidence, courage and compassion during their appointment. Nourish supports the nutritional well-being of students and helps build their food knowledge and skills so they can feed themselves well into a healthy future. Nourish helps create and support healthy eating environments for NS children and youth:

~Nourish Your Roots: a healthy fundraiser supporting healthy school food programs and local farmers.

Ovarian Cancer Canada

Ovarian Cancer Canada is the only Canadian charitable organization dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer. They are working to change the trajectory of this disease by raising awareness of ovarian cancer, supporting women living with the disease and their families and funding research to help women live fuller, better, and longer lives.

Prescott Group is a non-profit agency. Their mission is to enhance the independence of adults with intellectual disabilities through personal development, social enterprise and community employment. Their social enterprises include Atlantic Bag Manufacturers, Fireside Kitchen, Prescott Mailing Services and Online Auction which includes meaningful work and opportunity right here in Halifax.

The Club Inclusion

The Club Inclusion provides social, cultural and recreational programs accessible to all people with disabilities. They enrich lives by building friendships, community and success.  They run daily programs, events and activities in Halifax and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, accessible to youth and adults who have diverse abilities and needs.
