Adsum Association for Women & Children

Adsum offers a range of services and support to women, families, youth and trans* persons during periods of homelessness. Adsum operates four Halifax locations: an emergency shelter, second-stage housing and two affordable, supportive housing apartment complexes. Adsum also has three condos that are rented, as permanent supported housing, to women-led families. We shelter or house up to 80 people each day and we provide services and support to more than 1,000 people each year.

Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia

The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia’s mission is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in addition to promoting the search for the causes, treatments and cures. They invest in outstanding Alzheimer research and provide valuable programs and services to the thousands of Nova Scotians in need. The Society relies on the generosity of donors, corporate supporters and volunteers to achieve its Mission.

Aninga Project

The Aninga Project is a non-profit educational initiative that supports and encourages the education of girls in Africa by paying for school fees and other related expenses. It is a person-to-person based project that is currently focused on sending girls to school in Uganda.

Bide Awhile Animal Shelter Society

Bide Awhile Animal Shelter is a no-kill, not-for-profit shelter that has cared for homeless cats and dogs in Metro Halifax since 1969. In addition to seeking loving adoptive homes for the animals in our care, they work to reduce pet overpopulation by vigorously developing and promoting spay and neuter programs, educating the community on proper pet guardianship and more.

Blind Sports Nova Scotia

Blind Sports Nova Scotia are passionate about connecting Nova Scotians with vision loss to sport, recreation, and healthy lifestyles in their community. They welcome all ages & skill levels. Their programs include goalball, tandem biking, and more. Their community partners offer guides for runners, blind hockey, and dragon boating. They’re a volunteer-run charitable organization, a chapter of the Canadian Council of the Blind, member of the Canadian Blind Sports Association, and associate member of Sport Nova Scotia.

Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia

BIANS is a small, very dedicated non-profit who are in the business of brain injury support, programs, services and advocacy. From more severe traumatic brain injuries to concussions, people look to them every day as a resource and touchstone of support across the spectrum of brain injuries. Some 2700 new brain injuries occur every year in Nova Scotia alone. BIANS is the only organized voice for some 80,000 Nova Scotians affected by brain injury.

Breaking the Silence Network – Tatamagouche Centre

Breaking the Silence is a volunteer network in the Maritimes supporting the efforts of Guatemalans struggling for political, social, and economic justice. (Designated partner program of Tatamagouche Centre/ACTC). They undertake advocacy and lobbying; organize delegations; send interns, volunteers, and human rights accompaniers; promote fairly-traded coffee; and raise awareness.

Canadian Aniridia Foundation

The Canadian Aniridia Foundation is focused on awareness, research and support for individuals with Aniridia, a rare genetic disease that effects eye development. Aniridics face a spectrum of vision impairing conditions and ocular degeneration resulting in blindness. Few treatment options are available and support systems are inadequate. Their hope is that advanced research will improve the quality of life for Aniridics helping them to successfully manage this complex disease, and eventually leading us to a cure.

Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis

CPFF’s mission is: (1) To support patients with this incurable & fatal disease & help them advocate for & receive the health care they need. (2) To raise funding for research in Canada to find causes & effective treatments for PF and, in particular but not limited to, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. (3) To advocate & represent patients to governments & health care professionals and to make lung transplants the last resort-not the only resort.

Childrens Wish Foundation, Nova Scotia Chapter

Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Chisholm Services for Children

Chisholm Services for Children is the only non-profit organization in Central NS offering a long-term care program, specializing in early intervention. Chisholm guides children who face severe circumstances like neglect and abuse, to realize self-worth. Chisholm helps children develop skills and capacities to function successfully in their community and grow as healthy, stable individuals. Chisholm also provides a literacy program for children, P-6, who are reading below grade level or who have a L.D.

Common Roots Urban Farm

Common Roots Urban Farm is a community farm as a piece of health infrastructure, downtown Halifax. They are a project of Partners for Care, established in 2012 as an interim land use. Common Roots Urban Farm’s mission is to promote healthy lifestyles and landscapes through hands-on education about growing & eating healthy food. At CRUF, they work to create a community in which people are nourished, valued, and engaged with nature.

Craigs Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society

Their Mission; to provide information and support to Canadians with pancreatic cancer, and their families; to create awareness and educate both the general public and health professionals about the disease, and to raise research funds leading to earlier detection, better treatments and improved quality of life for patients.  Currently, an estimated 92% of Canadians will not survive their pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation

Dalhousie Medical research Foundation (DMRF), established in 1979, supports medical research excellence at Dalhousie Medical School and its affiliated health care institutions. Dartmouth Family Centre

The Dartmouth Family Centre has operated in the heart of Dartmouth North for more than 20 years, providing a space for new moms and families to support one another, access services and resources, and build a network of relationships. Two years ago they opened the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre in response to food insecurity – a welcoming space where people come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food.

Diabetes Canada

Diabetes Canada is leading the fight against diabetes by helping those affected by diabetes live healthy lives, preventing the onset and consequences of diabetes, and researching a cure. Currently, one Canadian is diagnosed with diabetes every three minutes and diabetes contributes to the leading cause of blindness, 30% of strokes, 40% of heart attacks, and other serious complications. The importance of their work to end diabetes cannot be underestimated and they truly value your support.

Direction 180

Direction 180 is a community-based methadone clinic located in the North End of Halifax. Based on a harm-reduction model, they offer treatment regardless of whether a client discontinues the use opioids or other drugs. This approach reduces the harmful consequences of drug use, including intravenous use, needle sharing, and criminal offences. They help clients improve their quality of life, living conditions, mental/psychological and physical health through providing methadone, counseling, advocacy, and medical monitoring.

Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a registered charity whose mission is “to bring STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) to life through fun, interactive learning experiences.” Through their dozens of curriculum-connected educational programs and community outreach activities, they reach more than 200,000 Nova Scotians annually. Their enthusiastic team of STEAM educators travel to communities large and small across the province, inspiring an interest in STEAM and the confidence to pursue a future of STEAM learning.

Feed Nova Scotia

Feed NS strives to feed Nova Scotians in need & reduce that need. To achieve this, they distribute 2 million kilograms of donated food to their member network of 146 food banks and meal programs across the province. their role also extends beyond food. They support our members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and they help raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians.

Halifax Refugee Clinic Association

The Halifax Refugee Clinic is a not-for profit, non governmental organization, founded in 2000, and dedicated to helping some of the world’s most vulnerable people find safety in Canada. They provide legal and settlement services to people fleeing persecution and conflict who are unable to afford a private lawyer. Through refugee advocacy, they are also investing in the future of our community and society.

Halifax Regional Search and Rescue

The mandate of Halifax Search and Rescue is to locate and rescue lost persons within their jurisdiction, in the best possible condition. However, Halifax Search and Rescue serves the community in many other ways, including evidence searches with local police authorities, wilderness survival and education sessions for children and adults, evacuations and other civil emergency responses in cooperation with the Emergency Measures Organization (Nova Scotia and Halifax Municipality).

Hope For Wildlife

Hope for Wildlife is a charitable rehabilitation and education organization, in Seaforth, Nova Scotia. Since 1997, they have rescued, rehabilitated, and released over 40,000 injured and orphaned wildlife. They aim to connect people to wildlife in a positive way through knowledge and understanding. Annually, their helpline assists 10,000 callers, they welcome thousands of visitors to tour their facilities, give hundreds of offsite community educational presentations and gather data from the animals they treat.

ILNS is a non-profit group controlled by persons with disabilities, supporting people with any kind or combination of disabilities. The centre provides opportunities where persons with disabilities can meet at social events, share tips and information and learn from each other. Welcome Housing and Support Services

Formerly known as, Metro Non-Profit Housing Association, Welcome Housing and Support Services work to assist adults who have been homeless or are at risk of being homeless to create and maintain their homes. The housing projects and drop-in center provides them with a stable base and supportive environment.
